Obituary for Raymond W. Hemminger, Jr.

Raymond Wilbur Hemminger, Jr., age 75, of Portland, passed away July 13, 2020. He was born July 29, 1944 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Raymond and Elsie (Smith) Hemminger, Sr. He was a graduate of Ionia High School and later of Lansing Community College. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Ray enjoyed woodworking, fossils, gardening, and listening to music. Ray was a DJ and dance instructor for many years and he brought joy to all knew him.

Preceding Ray in death are his parents; daughter, Angel Hemminger; granddaughter, Melissa Hunter; and brother, Stan Hemminger. Surviving Ray are his children, Ricky Burhans of Lowell, Cristy Hemminger of Georgia, Raymond Hemminger III of Georgia, Candy (Charles) Meriweather of South Carolina, Linda Moore of Battle Creek, and Jerry Hemminger of Ionia; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many siblings; and his dear friend, Sarah Sanford.

The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Gary Coleman at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Interment will follow in Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
