Jami Schneider Resigns from Portland School Board
Jami Schneider, DDS, has served with distinction on the Portland School Board for many years. She has decided to step down from the Board effective July 1st.
School Board members in Portland are elected to six-year terms. Dr. Schneider’s current term would have ended on December 31st, 2020. She recently decided not to seek another term.
The School Board vacancy will be posted on the Portland Public Schools webpage on July 1st. Interested candidates will have until July 20th to submit an application to complete Schneider’s term. The School Board will then interview potential candidates on July 27th. Potential Board Members must reside within the Portland School District.
If the person who is selected to complete Schneider’s term wishes to remain on the Board after December 31st, they will need to file an application with the Ionia County Clerk by July 21, 2020 to have their name on the November 3rd general election ballot. Three of the seven Portland school board seats are up for election this fall. School Board positions in Michigan are non-partisan.
The School Board meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday nights of the month, with additional sub-committee meetings additionally scheduled. Most Board members are assigned to two sub-committees.
Current Portland School Board Members include Doug Logel, Linda Hoxie-Green, Brian Pohl, Kathy Foote, Beth Goodman and Patrick Duff.
