Obituary for Catherine Louise (Dilley) Schafer

Catherine L. Schafer, age 80, of Portland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7th, 2020. She was born July 5, 1939 in Portland to Elon and Hilda (Brown) Dilley. Catherine, who went by Cathy or Kate, was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Preceding Catherine in death are her parents; husband, Frederick Schafer; and daughter, Sharon Schafer. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her children, Michael (Ronda) Schafer, Deborah (Richard) Kuieck, Jane (Daniel) Russ, Gregory (Cindy) Schafer, and Joseph Schafer; six grandchildren, Mandi, Matt, Alex, Chris, Olivia and Brittany; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, sisters, and in-laws.

Cathy lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She did daycare while the kids were young then worked as a lunch lady at the school and assisted with catering. Catherine did ironing for many people throughout her adult life. She also loved to crochet, read, garden, tend to flowers, and watch the birds until Alzheimer’s disease took these things from her.
