Obituary for Henry Carl Matthai

Henry Carl Matthai, age 97, of Portland, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020. He was born on October 22, 1922 in Hamm, Germany the son of Heinrich and Herta Matthai. Mr. Matthai was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lansing, Michigan. His family immigrated to the U.S. in 1925 and they settled in the Detroit area. Henry is a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving as a technician to develop aerial photographs of Japanese occupied territory. He worked for Chrysler Corp. from 1946-1980, specifically in the Mopar Parts Division. On August 31, 1946 he married Mary Meyer and they shared 68 years together. Preceding him in death are his wife, Mary; parents and a sister, Anna. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Konarska; grandchildren, Keri (Chris) Blough, and Mark (Lindsey) Konarska; great grandsons, Camden Konarska and Cooper Konarska. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 W. Saginaw Street, Lansing, with Pastor Robert Allman presiding. The family will receive friend from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Portland Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 W. Saginaw Hwy., Lansing, MI 48917. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
