The Portland High girls basketball team traveled to Eaton Rapids to face the Greyhounds on Friday night for a CAAC White match-up, and an opportunity to clinch the conference title with a victory.

The Lady Raiders defeated the Greyhounds 47-41 and secured their league championship.

Portland was led by sophomore Ashley Bower with 22 points. Alivia Densmore added 8 and Shalyn Dzwiatkowski scored 7 points.

The Greyhounds were led by Peyton Benjamin who scored 10 points.

After the game, Portland coach Jason Haid told the Beacon, “This group worked hard to win the league championship. All year long they just keep working toward their goal. It feels good and was a great game tonight. Haid added, “Ava Guilford hit two huge free throws at the end. I had no doubt she was going to make those. She is a crunch time player. A real competitor.”

Scoring summary by quarter:

1st – 2nd – 3rd – 4th – Final

Portland 10 – 22 – 6 – 9 – 47

ER 14 – 6 – 7 – 14 – 41

The Raiders improve to 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the CAAC White. Their next contest in next Friday when they host Charlotte.
