Lady Raiders Fall to Lansing Catholic 47-43 in OT

The Portland High School girls hosted the Cougars of Lansing Catholic on Friday night. The teams battled to a 38-38 tie at the end of regulation, but the Cougars outscored the Raiders in overtime to pick up a 47-43 win.

Sophomore Ava Guilford led the Raiders with 14 points. Junior Ava Gruber added 11, while sophomores Breckyn Werner and Ashley Bower each scored seven points.

Lauren Hanes led the Cougars with 15 points.

After the game, Portland Coach Jason Haid told the Beacon, “We shot seven of 20 on our free throws and missed the lot of front-end shots on our one and ones. That was trouble. It was hard for us to get separation. It was a tight game. I think we played not to lose in instead of playing to win. We started off good but they picked up the pressure.”

As for the remainder of the season, Haid said “We still have a one game lead in conference. Win the next two and the conference is ours. Everything we want is still in front of us. We are in control of our own destiny. We just need to practice hard, play hard, and be good teammates. Those are our goals moving forward.”
