Potterville downs St. Patrick's boys
On Thursday, January 9th, the Potterville Vikings visited Portland for a match with the St. Patrick's Shamrocks. Despite playing them tough early, the Shamrocks just couldn't finish and ended up losing 69-49. In the first quarter the Shamrocks fought hard and matched up well with the Vikings. Led by 8 points from Sam Mauren, and 4 points from John Schneider, Ryan Lay and Seth Hoppes, the Shamrocks put in 20 points for their best offensive quarter of the year, and took a 20-17 lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings stepped it up and outscored the Shamrocks 24-13. The Shamrocks were led by Sam Mauren again, putting in another 8 points, while Evan Schrauben put in a three, and Ryan Lay put in two. This left the Shamrocks down 41-33 at halftime. The third quarter was a defensive battle, and the Shamrocks held the Vikings to only 12 points, but unfortunately Potterville held St. Patrick's to only 6 points in the quarter. The Vikings extended their lead to 53-39 going into the fourth. Ryan Lay led the Shamrocks with 4 points, and Connor Cross put in the other 2 points. The Vikings finished strong, winning the fourth quarter 16-10. Connor Cross and Seth Hoppes both had 3 points, and Ryan Lay and Tyler Coyne both had 2 points for the Shamrocks. Offensive leaders for St. Patrick's were Sam Mauren who had 16 points 4 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal, Ryan Lay who had 12 points 7 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal, and Seth Hoppes who had 7 points 4 rebounds and 2 assists. The Shamrocks play home against Ashley, Tuesday January 14th.
