"It's amazing what a little bit of music can do..."

"It's amazing what a little bit of music can do to help folks out a whole lot", said Mike Sulecki at the conclusion of the Winter Celebration Concert on Tuesday night. Sulecki, Portland School's Director of Music,organized and conducted the concert that featured the Middle School Choir, High School Choir, Middle School Bands, High School Concert Band and the Jazz Band.

A special performance was also provided by Tough Luck, a student jazz/funk group that just keeps getting better and better. Tough Luck performed "Stand By Me" and their version of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24". Mya Collins, a PHS Junior, who has been taking Piano lessons for the past ten years, also performed a lovely piano solo,"Mary Did You Know?".

Two-Hundred-Twenty (220) Portland students performed at the concert and positively demonstrated the vitality of Portland Schools Music program. One of the features of the night was the combined 95 member 6th/7th/8th grade bands playing a pretty good rendition of "Winter Wonderland".

The evening closed with the High School Concert band accompanying a reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" It was narrated by Portland English Teacher, Chad Fuller.

The Spring Concert is scheduled for May 12,2020. But before then will be the 44th Annual Day of Music scheduled for Saturday, March 21st, from 9am-5pm. Watch The Beacon for further details.
