Shamrock Girls Basketball Preview 2019-2020
The Portland St. Patrick girls basketball team will open their 2019-2020 season when they travel to Lansing Christian on Wednesday night. The team’s first home game will be on Friday when they host Webberville.
Last years Shamrock squad finished 12-6 in the league tying for 3rd place, and 18-7 overall.
The Shamrocks will take the court this year with plenty of experience at the varsity level, including:
Samee Teachworth – a 5'9" senior center who will be playing her 3rd varsity season.
Ally Florian - a 5'7" senior forward playing her 2nd varsity season.
Lydia Meredith - a 5'7" sophomore guard who is in her 2nd varsity season and was 2nd team all-conference last year.
Mara Schrauben - a 5'8" sophomore forward who is in her 2nd varsity season and was 2nd team all-conference last year.
Katelyn Russell - a 5'9" sophomore forward who was the 2018-2019 team’s leading 3pt shooter.
The Shamrocks roster will also include a handful of very talented juniors in forward Avery Zimmerman (5'7"), center Karley Beachnau (5"10"), forward Emma Scheurer (5'7"), guard Maddie Leblanc (5'7") and guard Sophie White (5'7").
Coach Al Schrauben returns at the helm for his 36th season leading the Shamrocks. As for his outlook on the 2019-2020 team, Schrauben said, “We will compete for the top half of the league and hopefully a tournament run.”
