Obituary for Robert Earl Hirschman

Robert Earl Hirschman, age 87, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019. He was born on November 25, 1932, in Laurel, Nebraska, the son of Earl and Mary Hirschman. Bob was a member of the First Congregational Church in Portland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In his earlier years, Bob was a trainer for Golden Gloves Boxing and coached various women’s softball teams. He enjoyed putting together puzzles and was known as a “tinkerer”. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hirschman; sisters, Pat Schear and Rita Lessman; brothers, Claire Hirschman and James Hirschman; and son-in-law, Zac Francis. Surviving are his children, Kim (Steve) Pung of Portland, Dennis (Jane) Hirschman of New Zealand, Howard (Cheryl) Hirschman of Ionia, Tammy (Rich) Thorp of Portland, Christine (George) Brown of Ionia, Curt (Missy) Hirschman of Lansing, Brad (Amy) Parkhouse of Portland, Cherie (Terry) Bailey of Portland and Jody Francis of Portland; 27 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. The Memorial Service will be celebrated by Pastor April Barrett at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the First Congregational Church, 421 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
