Football Playoffs: Round 1 Preview


Both local high school football programs qualified for the MHSAA payoffs in their respective divisions and will begin their post season runs this week.

The Portland Raiders finished their regular season 7-2, with 78.00 playoff points and were the CAAC White Champions. The Raiders will host the Hornets of Central Montcalm. The Hornets finished their season 7-2, with 73.889 playoff points, and were the Champions of the Central State Activities Association Gold Division. The teams will meet Friday night at 7:00.

Here is a look at the Hornets schedule and results according to the MHSAA.

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Olivet and Lansing Catholic.

If you plan on going the Raider game on Friday, PHS Athletic Department Secretary Laura Hager said, “Playoff tickets are here. So starting tomorrow (Wednesday) I will be selling from 8 am to 3 pm Wednesday and Thursday in the Athletic office at the High School and on Friday 8am to noon! Otherwise you can buy at the game! Prices are $6. No student, staff, league, or senior passes during playoffs! Remember $1 bills are welcomed!”

The Shamrocks of Portland St. Patrick finished their regular season with a perfect 9-0 record and with 61.889 playoff points. They will host the Cougars of Bay City All Saints. The Cougars finished their regular season 5-4, with 30.597 playoff points, and finished third in the North Central Thumb League White Division. The teams will face off on Saturday at 1:00.

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Peck and Kinde North Huron.
