Shamrocks Smash Webberville Spartans
On Friday, September 20th, the undefeated Portland St. Patrick's Shamrocks visited Webberville for a game against the Spartans. The Shamrocks were far too fast for the Spartans, dominating the game 56-0.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks wasted no time, marching down the field and capping the drive with a 1 yard touchdown by Ned Smith. The Shamrocks struck again in the first, on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Connor Cross to Zach Spitzley.
The second quarter saw the Shamrock offense explode, scoring 30 points in the quarter. John Schneider started it off with a 35 yard run, Zach Spitzley caught a 41 yard touchdown pass, Tyler Coyne caught another 55 yard touchdown pass, and John Schneider catching a 28 yard touchdown pass. The defense also scored on a safety. The Shamrocks took a 42-0 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw Shamrock running back Ned Smith explode for a 48 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage, putting zero doubt about the outcome.
The fourth quarter saw Junior running back Jacobe Hayes-Dunning shimmy and shake for a 50 yard touchdown run.
Jeff Davlin went 4-4 on extra point attempts.
The Shamrock defense was also dominant, holding the Spartans to NEGATIVE 23 yards of total offense.
Offensive leaders were Ned Smith who had 9 carries for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, Jacobe Hayes-Dunning who had 2 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown, Zach Spitzley who had 2 touchdown receptions for 77 yards. Quarterback Connor Cross went 4-5 for 160 yards with 4 touchdowns.
Defensive leaders were Ned Smith with 7 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss (TFL), Alex Kissane had 7 tackles, and Derec Fedewa had 6 tackles.
The Shamrocks host undefeated Vestaburg next Friday at 7 pm at Portland High School.
