Saturday Afternoon is a Hit During Portland 150 Celebration Weekend
Saturday was a busy day for activities included in the Portland 150 celebration. This is the second of two pieces on the Saturday sesquicentennial celebration events organized by the Portland 150 organizing committee.
The Antique Roadshow ran from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Local antique expert Dennis Beard joined visitors and provided information on several family heirlooms. Visitors were permitted to bring one antique item for discussion and a second item, only if it was Portland related. This event occurred in front of the Kramer building.
The Portland Area Historical Society offered Historic Walking Tours from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Those who participated in the tour were given a detailed history of several downtown buildings and “their contribution to commerce and civic life.”
Hosted by Epic Church, Playful Portland Streets was open to children from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The activities included some old-fashioned fun like hula hoops and jump ropes and well as popular modern attractions like and inflatable slide and obstacle course.
Five Decades of Music and Dance took place at the Bandshell 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Sponsored and organized by the Portland Community Arts Council, the show featured music from the past 50 of Portland’s 150 years. The music was performed by local and regional musicians.
Portland High School Marching Band performed their 2019 Half Time show at the Bandshell 7:45 PM.
The day concluded with Old Time Fireworks at the Bogue Flats at dusk. A popular and fitting end to a day filled with family fun.
