PHS Tennis Falls to Williamston
Portland traveled to Williamston Tuesday for our second dual match of the season. The team ended up losing 3-5 but there were a lot of bright spots throughout the match. Eight matches is too much to watch at one time so the first thing any tennis coach will do is watch the scores of the first few games and help where they're needed. The problem we had is that when I looked around almost every flight was off to a very slow start. The problem was twofold. The boys were moving slow and they were trying to over hit every shot. Once we talked about these things, the team pulled it together and played some really tough matches. 1 doubles was probably the most impressive. Gabe and Marty play really well when they're not trying to do too much. The problem is they play big teams and feel like they need to play big too. Once they started playing their game Williamston got really frustrated and we jumped on it. They won one of their bigger matches of the season. Portland next plays Thursday at home against Haslett in another non-league match at 4:00.
