Here are some important announcements from the Portland Public Schools regarding the upcoming school year.
The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 21st.

ELEMENTARY BUILDINGS
Letters concerning classroom assignments were sent to each student’s home address on August 9th. Westwood Elementary School will hold an open house on Monday, August 19th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Oakwood Elementary School will have their open house on Monday, August 19th from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to bring any school supplies for their children to the open house. We look forward to seeing all of our students and parents.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Middle School will host its Open House-Kick Start Day for parents and students on Monday, August 19th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. where all beginning of the year business and forms may be taken care of at one time. Parents and students will have the opportunity to tour the building and meet with teachers in their rooms. Teachers will be available in their rooms from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. to discuss the upcoming school year. Annual school pictures will be taken that day. School Picture Schedule is as follows (you may come at any time if you cannot make it within these windows) :
4:00 - 5:00 p.m. - 6th Graders School Pictures in the Gymnasium
4:45 - 5:45 p.m. - 7th Graders School Pictures in the Gymnasium
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - 8th Graders School Pictures in the Gymnasium
Parents are encouraged to bring physical forms, shot records, and activity fees with them. Student schedules will be given to their parents/guardians during Kick Start. Schedules for students whose parents/guardians do not attend Kick Start will be provided to students on the first day of school and available on Skyward. The building will open at 7:10 a.m. on the first day of school. Students are asked to gather in either the cafeteria or the gymnasium prior to the 7:30 a.m. bell.
HIGH SCHOOL
Schedules for all 10th, 11th, and 12th graders as well as other beginning of the year information will be sent to the student’s home address on Friday, August 9th. Schedules for 9th graders will be given to their parents/guardians during Freshmen Orientation on Monday, August 12th which begins at 7:00pm in the High School auditorium. Schedules for 9th graders whose parents/guardians do not attend Freshman Orientation will be mailed home on August 13th. On the first day of school, all students are to report to their first hour class by 7:30am. We will have an all school assembly beginning at 8:48. Students will not attend HIT on the first day of school. HIT students will report to their PHS classes and to the auditorium at 8:45 on the first day. HIT students attend HIT classes beginning on Thursday, August 22nd.
ALTERNATIVE, VIRTUAL, AND ADULT
Information and Registration packets were mailed home to all returning students.. Virtual school laptop pickup and assessment day is September 5th from 9:00am-1:00pm. Please contact our office if you would like to enroll or have any questions

FOOD SERVICE
The Food Service Program will begin serving breakfast on Wednesday August 21st . Lunches start Thursday August 22nd and costs are $2.60 for elementary and $2.85 for grades 6-12. Cost of milk is 60¢. Breakfast prices are $1.35 for elementary and $1.60 for grades 6-12. Free or reduced meal benefits will continue for the first five weeks of the new school year for those who qualified for these benefits last year. A new application will need to be filled out for the current school year after that time.
Latchkey Child Care Program and Little Raiders Preschool
The before school Latchkey Child Care Program will begin on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 21st at 6:30 a.m. For enrolled families there will be sign up for afternoon care on half days. Please note there is no pm care on the first and last day of school. Waiting lists are being formed for Latchkey. Students may be placed on the waiting list by calling Oakwood Elementary School, 647-2991
The first day of school, August 21st, will be a half day for the Little Raiders Preschool Program. We are still enrolling for the 2019-2020 school year. For enrollment information please call Oakwood Elementary School, 647-2991, Extension. 5213
