The Portland Civic Players have been a busy group as of late and things aren’t slowing down any time soon. Here are just a few things they have coming up!

Open Auditions for the fall production of The Wizard of Oz are scheduled for August 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. at the Portland Community Theater (231 Maple St. Portland). The auditions will be for ages 9 and up. Anyone auditioning will need to come prepared with a song, with either sheet music or a backing track on a USB and be prepared for cold readings. It is not required to attend both nights of auditions.

On August 24, the group is sponsoring their first ever 5K, The Drama Run. This run/walk will be a lot of fun and funds raised will go towards the groups efforts to renovate the outside of their building which includes a new marquee with LED screens! The run will begin and end at the pavilion by the ball fields located at the flats and is being held in conjunction with the Red Mill Community Day, with lots of fun along the route. Registration will start at 7:30 with the race beginning at 9:00 a.m. To register for this event, visit the website at www.portlandcivicplayers.com.

On December 13, the organization is hosting a Christmas Cabaret! This is a one night only, semi-formal event that will be a 21 and up show. Come join them for an awesome Christmas show led by an incredible emcee, great Christmas music, old and new, and a talented cast. Tickets for this event will go on sale October 1 and will be limited. Tickets will be $30 each and will get attendees a night of entertainment, heavy Hors d'oeuvres catered by Olivera’s, and two drink tickets for beer and wine.

The Portland Civic Players are also in the middle of a fundraising campaign, Let Your Light Shine, for their marquee renovation project. Individuals or families can purchase a new marquee light bulb for $75. For their donation, they will get a small thank you gift as well as their name (or the name of the person/family they are honoring) on a permanent plaque on the building.

Information for all of these events and happening can be found on the organizations newly redesigned website www.portlandcivicplayers.com or on their Facebook page “Portland Civic Players”.
