Like it or not, it is almost here. The first day of school for local schools is rapidly approaching.

The first day of school for Portland Public Schools is a half day on August 21st, while St. Patrick School starts on August 22nd with a full day for DK through 12th grade.

Below we have put together some back to school details about each of the school in our community.

Oakwood Elementary

Oakwood’s office opened on Monday, August 5th at 8:00 A.M. The office will be open daily from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. For now, the office is still located in the music room as they finish up remodeling the main office. Oakwood Open House will take place on August 19th from 4:00-5:30.

Westwood Elementary

Westwood’s office opened on Monday, August 5th at 8:00 A.M. The office will be open daily from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The office is still temporarily located in the music room due to ongoing bond funded work in the main office.

In a recent email to parents, Principals Chris Kenroy said, “I know that everyone is very excited to find out who their child’s classroom teacher will be. We are still in the process of finalizing class lists as letters will be mailed out on Friday, August 9th to all parents and guardians. This mailing will have a letter from their new teacher, a school supply list as well as other important information.

Kenroy added, “Finally, I wanted to let everyone know that Westwood will have their open house on August 19th from 6:00-7:30. This is a great time to meet your child’s teacher and drop off school supplies. The open house will not have a formal program so feel free to come at any time during the time window.”

Portland Middle School

The Middle School’s office opened on Monday, August 5th, we will be open from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Principal Leanna Davis told parents, “We will currently be in the "old" office until the new office is complete. To access the office please use the entrance on Storz Ave. near the flag pole. This entrance leads you into the building right by the cafeteria. You will then enter the office from the opposite side that you normally did.”

The Middle School will hold its Kick Start Event on August 19th from 4:00-6:30. Davis said, “This is not like your traditional open house but much more involved. We highly recommend that all students and parents/guardians attend.”

Portland High School

The PHS office also opened on Monday, August 5th. It will be open from 7:00-3:00 each day.

Principal Christine Rockey told parents, “If you need to enter our building, please use door D (Central Office) and you will be directed where to go to get to the temporary high school office.”

Rockey added, “Freshmen Orientation will be on Monday, August 12th at 7pm in our auditorium.”

St. Patrick School

Office hours at St. Patrick School for the week of August 5th-9th will be 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Normal office hours will resume on August 12th.

The school will hold its High School Orientation on August 15th and its Welcome Back Open House on August 21st.
