June Declared as National Flag Month

To highlight the fact that June is designated as "FLAG Month" The American Legion Post 129 in Portland conducted a survey of the city to determine approximately how many homes and business owners are flying the American flag to honor our country and the men and women who have fought to defend it.

This was an informal study and realizing many people only display the flag on special occasions such as Memorial Day, and Fourth of July. We wanted to acknowledge and thank those that display the flag on a daily basis. If we happened to have missed yours, we are sorry.

We canvased 70 streets in the city limits, covering close to 50 miles. in distance and found 257 homes and businesses that had flags flying on the day of the study. Afterwards postcards were mailed to them, a copy of which is shown below in appreciation.
