Portland Wins Pre-District Softball Game
The Portland Raider Softball team extended its season on Tuesday evening by beating the Lakewood Vikings 5 - 3 in a pre-district contest. Portland jumped out in the lead by scoring 1 in the first and 2 in the third inning. Lakewood bounced back by scoring 1 in the 4th and 1 in the fifth to make it 3 - 2 but the Raiders scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to go up 5 - 2. Lakewood was able to push one more run across but it wasn’t enough and the score ended 5 - 3.
Leading hitters for the Raiders were Jada Walton who went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, Natalie Linebaugh who went 2 for 3 with a double, and Emma Johnson who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. The game featured some outstanding defensive plays by the Raiders. Sophie Novara picked up the win giving up 8 hits striking out 5 and walking only 2. Portland is now 22 and 10 going into District play 10:00 Saturday in Ionia.
