Home Runs by Novara, Selden, Walton and Linebaugh Help Raider Softball Take Two From Redwings


The varsity softball team took two from St Johns in non-league double header on Thursday night. In the first game Portland defeated the Redwings by the score of 10 - 3. The Raiders scored the 10 runs on 15 hits and committed 2 errors. Sophia Novara went 3 for 4 with a homerun blast in the fourth inning. Emma Selden hit her second dinger of the season with 2 on in the bottom of the fifth. Jada Walton, Natalie Linebaugh and Allison Summers also had three hits in the game. Adrianna Novara picked up her 5th win of the season giving up 5 hits walking one and striking out 12 batters.

The Raiders took the nightcap from the Redwings 11 - 10 in a wild 21 run game. Portland was trailing St Johns 10 - 6 after six innings when they exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 7th featuring back to back home runs by Jada Walton and Natalie Linebaugh with two outs. Sophia Novara led all hitters going 4 for 5 with two RBI’s. Other multiple hitters were Jada Walton 3 - 4, Natalie Linebaugh 2 - 4, Brooke Seal 2 - 4 and Maria Krause 2 - 4. Sophia Novara picked up the win in relief with a gutsy 3 inning performance and striking out the last two batters with a one run lead.

Portland is now 12 -6 for the season and will travel to Ann Arbor for tournament on Saturday.
