Raider Golfers Travel to St. Johns
On Friday, May 3 rd , the varsity boy’s golf team traveled to St. Johns to play in the Redwing Invitational. For the fourth time the Raiders played through the cold, windy and very wet course conditions against a field of eighteen teams mostly from Mid-Michigan. With fifteen out of the eighteen teams were either division one or two schools, the Raiders gained some valuable course and competitive experience that will help prepare them for their league tournament (to be played at the same course later this month) and the MHSAA Regional Tournament at the end of this month.
Played at the highly rated and challenging Emerald Golf Course, the Raiders shot a team score of 372 to finish in twelfth place. Dewitt, who is currently ranked second in the most recent D- 2 poll, took top honors shooting a 328; Haslett was second with a 335 and Grand Rapids Christian finished in third place with a 340.
Individually for the Raiders: Zach Pier shot an eight-over-par 80 to finish tied for fourth place individually out of ninety golfers which earned him an individual top ten medal. Ethan Getchell carded a 96; Jared Thomas and Hayden Getchell each finished with 98’s and CJ Miller had a 105.
Weather permitting, the Raiders will be making up last weeks postponed divisional jamboree at the Groesbeck Golf Course in Lansing on Tuesday and then turn right around on Wednesday to play in their fifth divisional jamboree at Shadow Ridge in Ionia.
