Portland’s Mallek to be Adrian Bulldog

Portland High School Senior Mitchell Mallek recently signed his letter of intent to play football at Adrian College next year.
Mallek played corner back and running back for the Raider varsity team the past two seasons. In his senior season he was named a team captain and received all conference, all state, and dream team honors. In his time at PHS, he was also a member of the baseball and basketball programs.
The 5’ 7” 160-pound Mallek expects to play high safety or outside linebacker for Adrian, while he majors in Business.
When asked what made him choose Adrian over other programs, Mallek said, “Adrian has the best finical opportunity for me and smaller sized classrooms.”
When asked if there anything else he would like to include in the piece, Mallek responded, “Philippians 4:13.” According to the New King James version of the Bible, that verse reads, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Raider Head Football Coach John Novara said of Mallek, “Mitch had a great career at Portland High School. He is a great kid and has a great work ethic. For most of this season he led the area in interceptions. He is a physical corner and will do well at the next level. We are excited for Mitch and look forward to seeing him play at Adrian College next season.”
Founded in 1859 and located in Adrian, MI, Adrian College is a private, co-educational college of liberal arts with an enrollment of 1,650. The Bulldogs compete at the NCAA Division III level, and are a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), America’s oldest college athletic conference. Other members include Albion College, Alma College, Calvin College, Hope College, Kalamazoo College and Olivet College.
In the 2018 season, the Bulldog football team finished 4-6 overall, and 2-5 in the MIAA for a sixth-place league finish. They kick off their 2019 campaign when they host Heidelberg on September 7th.
