Raiders Advance to District BB Finals after defeating Lakewood for third straight win

The Portland Raiders Boys’ Basketball team will play the Ionia Bulldogs at 7:00 P.M. on Friday night for the MHSAA District Championship. The winner will advance to the Regionals at Marshall. Ionia (19-3) defeated Lansing Eastern 77-69 in the opening game of the second round of the districts. While Portland (7-13) defeated Lakewood Lake Odessa 58-45 in the second game of the night. The two teams will meet for the third time this season. Ionia won both the previous games.

Aryan Virk led Portland in scoring with 18 points. Owen Russell made 9 of 11 free throws in the game and finished with 14 points. Zac Pier scored 9 points and “played extremely well on both ends of the floor”, said Raider Coach Dave Pettit, “Aryan got us going offensively early and Owen sealed the game from the free throw line”. Tate Dziewiatkowski, who plays with relentless energy, provided leadership throughout the game and ended with 6 points. Jordan Petersen finished with 8 points. Jacob Elenbass scored 13 for the visiting Vikings.
