Eaton Rapids Sets Tone Early in Victory over Portland
The Eaton Rapids Boys Varsity Basketball Team got off to a 15-0 lead on Friday night before Portland’s Gavin McGregor scooped in a basket, in the last minute of the first quarter, which ended 15-2 in favor of the visiting Greyhounds. Portland found their shots in the second quarter but trailed 30-14 at halftime.
Eaton Rapids played relentless defense against the Raiders, holding Portland’s Owen Russell to just 7 points for the game, and increased their lead to 39-21 by the end of the third quarter. Portland Coach Dave Pettit commented, “Eaton Rapids did a good job of defending Owen Russell tonight. They were very physical and set the tone of the game early. We held them to 50 points for the game and played pretty good defense ourselves. They just kept us from scoring with their aggressive defense.” The final score was 50-28.
Pettit noted the play of Portland Sophomore Grant Ruddy tonight, “Grant plays hard and is earning his way”. Ruddy ended the night scoring 3 points for the game. Aryan Virk contributed 7, followed by Tate Dziewiatowski with 6 and Gavin McGregor with 5.
Eaton Rapids was led by Zach Dassance, with 14 points and Bronson Sysum who finished with 13.
Portland is now 4-11 on the season and are back in action tomorrow at 1:00 PM when they host the Olivet Eagles.
