Business Owners Cleaning Up From Flooding

While it seems that every TV station from Lansing and Grand Rapids has descended on Portland this morning to film the massive ice jam on Grand River that has flooded parts of the downtown area, local businesses are engaged in the task of trying to dry out and clean up. One of those businesses is Mary’s Cove located at 154 Kent Street. Owner Mary Steffens-Schmitz just opened her business on November 14th and is part of downtown Portland’s revival was woke up at 4 AM and at her business surveying damage at 6:30 AM. Fortunately, Tim Fuller of Windy Brook was able to assist her and water removal has begun in the basement. Mary said, “I had about 6-8 inches of water in the basement and there is a lot of damage. But Tim Fuller, of Windy Brook, has been amazing and we will recover”. Mary told the Beacon that her business is so new to downtown that most people do not know that its even there yet. “We are just getting started”, she declared. “I am not discouraged. Portland is wonderful”.
