On Friday, the Portland High School bowling team faced off with Haslett in a league crossover match. Portland’s girls were victorious by a score of 18 to 12 Notable scores for Portland:

Portland’s girls coach Joe Whitford said his team, “had another fantastic day looking more and more like they’re ready for regionals.” The Haslett bowling team defeated Portland’s boys 26 to 4. Notable scores for Haslett:

Portland boys coach William Armour III said the “boys struggled but worked through some issues looking forward to the weekend tournament.”
On Saturday, both teams attended the Zealand Baker tournament held at Fairlanes in Grandville. Portland’s girls took first place out of 14 teams. In match play they were undefeated winning the tournament. Whitford said, “After qualifying in 3rd, we knew we had to work on a few issues. In match play mentally & physically was the key on winning the tournament. The girls really worked together. This team is ready for regionals.” Portland boys team came in fifth place out of 18 teams at Zeeland. Armour said his team was “starting to show exactly who they’re going to be fighting for every win. A little more work to do before regionals but we’re within reach of being a great team.”
The girls are 6-0 in the CAAC Conference with four games remaining, and are ranked 2nd in the state in division 3 (MHSIBCA).
