Eaton Rapids defeats Raiders in Boys’ Basketball 54-50
The Eaton Rapids Greyhounds improved to 3-1 in CAAC White Division and to 6-4 overall after defeating the Portland Raiders in Eaton Rapids on Friday night by a score of 54-50.
Zach Dassance led the Greyhounds with 16 points, with 10 of those coming in the 4th Quarter. Portland led Eaton Rapids 40-36 at the beginning of the 4th Quarter but could not hold to that lead as key free throws and Eaton Rapids defensive play held the Raiders to only 10 points for the quarter, while the Greyhounds scored 18 of their own. The Greyhounds were 9 of 10 from the free throw line for the game, while the Raiders were 6 of 8.
Raider Coach Dave Pettit told the Beacon after the game, “We got off to a quick start tonight. Defended pretty well. Not as many turnovers but a couple key ones late in the game. Aryan and Owen played really well. Aryan rebounded very well. Zach Pier came off the bench and provided a nice spark tonight. We are just a little shorthanded right now without David (Svanda) who is recovering from an injury, but the kids are playing very hard right now.”
Junior Aryan Virk led the Raiders with 17 points, while Owen Russell added 12.
The Raiders fell to 2-7 for the year and are 0-4 in CAAC White Division play. They return to action on Tuesday night when they will host #11 rated Haslett at home. Haslett lost a close game at # 1 rated Williamston on Friday night 71-65. Tuesday’s Game time is 7 PM.
