PHS Wrestling Home Meet on Wednesday Night
The Portland High School wrestling team will have one of its two home meets of the season Wednesday night at 6:00 when they host the Orioles of Charlotte.
The Raiders 14-6 so far this season. They were the champions at the Ionia Invitational and were runner-up at the Grand Ledge Dual.
Coach Andy Puling said, “Of our wins, 61% are by pin (fall).”
According to Michigan Grappler, the team is currently ranked 10th in Division 3.
Coach mark Holdren said, “Our Raider PRIDE night match against Charlotte, January 9, 2019 at 6:00 pm, is an opportunity for our wrestlers to express GRATITUDE to teachers and staff from the Portland Public Schools for making a positive impact in their lives. The Portland wrestling culture is structured around developing three aspects of each wrestler. In addition to the physical and mental components we also spend time working on the moral responsibilities. We have chosen gratitude as a theme this season."
Holdren added, "The Raider PRIDE night is designed to allow each wrestler to connect to someone that they would like to thank for being in their life. The home match was a way to bring those special people in and let them be a part of the experience of wrestling, something that is important to the wrestler and the person who made a contribution to who they are now. There have been 25 people invited to attend. After the match we will have a short reception in the cafeteria.”
