Nancy L. (Bedenbender) Schrauben

Age 70, of Portland, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 27, 1948, the daughter of Louis and Esther (Nurenberg) Bedenbender. Nancy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She retired from MESSA after 30 years of service. She loved playing softball, tending to her wild flowers, watching hummingbirds, collecting U.S. state quarters, and singing karaoke. Nancy loved her family and always put the needs of others in front of her own.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Sylvester Thelen; in-laws, Isadore and Esther Schrauben and a brother-in-law, Jon Arendsen. Surviving are her beloved husband of 49 years, Gary “Dewey” Schrauben; daughter, Staci (Pablo Hernandez) Schrauben; son, Jason Schrauben; twin granddaughters, MacKenzie and Maddison Schrauben; brother, Jack (Nancy) Bedenbender; sisters, Patricia (Francis) Leik, Jan Maxwell, Betty (Joe) Peters, Susan Arendsen, Debi Bedenbender, and Sheila (Steve) Kemp; step-sister, Elaine Fox; step-brothers, Michael (Pat), Charles (Sue), Steve (Mary Lou), Alan (Mary), and Luke Thelen; several in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass. The rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice or St. Patrick Athletic Association in memory of Nancy.
