James Townsend

On Friday night, between the PHS boys and girls varsity basketball games, head football coach John Novara was presented with a checks from some local businesses. Novara met Harvey Hoskins of Portland Federal Credit Union, Amanda and Ashley Ward of Hometown Sports, and CJ Griffin on behalf of Jack Griffin Farm Bureau Insurance at half court.

These organizations are among the top supporters of PHS athletics year after year, but this presentation was in honor of the 2018 football team and Novara in particular. Novara was selected as one of nine Detroit Lions statewide Coaches of the Week and also advanced to the finals in the Detroit Lions Coach of the Year contest after leading the Raiders to a District title, Regional title, and state final appearance.

The Raiders finished the season with 13 wins and only one loss.

Farm Bureau graciously donated $5,000, PFCU donated $1,225, and Hometown Sports donated $1,225 to the Raider football program and the Portland Athletic Association. Jordy Goodman of Goodman Construction also donated $1,000 to the football program.
