Ashley Bower Named December Student Athlete of the Month
Ashley is averaging 15.3 points and 3.0 steals per game. Coach Jason Haid said, “Ashley is only a freshman and has been a big part of our teams 4-0 start.”
Ashley received 67% of the votes in this month's poll. The Portland Beacon’s Student Athlete of the Month contest is sponsored by J-Dubbs Signature Subs of Portland. The monthly winner receives a free sub of his/her choice from J-Dubbs Signature Subs. Monthly winners will also be entered for a chance at the Student Athlete of the Year award, and a free party platter from J-Dubbs Signature Subs.
When asked about playing for the Raiders, Ashley said, "It has been a great opportunity to play with varsity and become part of such an amazing team. I have learned so much from my coaches and teammates. I hope to continue to get better and contribute what I can to the team."
Haid said, "Ashley is a gym rat. She worked extremely hard in the off-season to make an impact as a freshman. I am not surprised that she is off to a great start this season. As good as Ashley has been for us, she has only scratched the surface of how good she can be. Ashley finishes well on the break, her outside shooting has improved and she attacks the basket well. Not only can she score, but she defends as well as anyone. I look forward to watching her develop over the next four years."
Ashley’s mom, Christie Bower, said, “We have always loved watching Ashley play basketball. She has loved the game of basketball since she was very young. She was very lucky to have some amazing coaches growing up. She continues to push herself both mentally and physically on the court and it is nice to able to see her play at this higher level. We are very proud of her and what she has accomplished thus far.”
The Raiders will host the Lansing Catholic Cougars on Friday, January 4th at 7:30 PM.
