PW Over Shamrock Girls
The St. Patrick's Shamrocks hosted the PW Pirates on Tuesday, December 11th for a showdown at Portland Middle School. The Shamrocks put together a good effort, and competed in the 1st half, but the Pirate defense was just too strong and the Pirates ended up winning handily, defeating the Shamrocks 52-20.
In the 1st quarter, the Shamrocks missed a few puppies and had a chance to keep it reasonable, with the Pirates pulling ahead 14-3.
In the 2nd quarter, the Shamrocks showed signs of life, with Mara Schrauben leading the way with 7 points and a solid defensive effort, still the Pirates won the quarter, by a score of 13-11.
The highly vaunted Pirate defense showed up a big way in the 3rd quarter, holding the Shamrocks to only 1 point, and giving St. Patrick's a very hard time getting the ball past the full court press. The Pirates stayed consistent offensively, and won the quarter 13-1.
The 4th quarter was more of the same, with the Pirates keeping the full court press on for virtually the whole game, holding the Shamrocks to 5 points, and PW putting in 12.
Mara Schrauben led the Shamrocks offensively, with 7 points 2 rebounds 1 steal and 1 assist. Samee Teachworth had 6 points 1 rebound and 1 assist. Kaitlyn Russell had 5 points and 2 rebounds and Lydia Meredith rounded out the scoring with 2 points 4 rebounds 1 steal and 1 assist.
Coach Al Schrauben praised the Pirates Defense, "Defensive Pressure caused us a lot of problems".
The Shamrocks play again this Thursday December 13th away at Saranac at 7 pm.
