Portland High School Gym Gets Spirited Make Over

Visitors to the Portland High School gymnasium this year will quickly notice some additions to the wall above the main bleachers. The wall now features some spirited Raider graphics.

Portland Athletic Director Kevin Veale said that the idea for the graphics, “was originally brought to me about 7 or 8 years ago and I tried to get it going then but the economy was bad and I couldn't get enough businesses to pay for the advertisements. I really liked the aesthetics it provides and liked the idea so I tried again last year and it took off.”

Veale added, “The businesses agree to a five year deal and pay a certain amount per year for the spots. The first couple years pay for the wall wrap and then it turns into a fund raiser for us where the money goes to us after it is paid for. So not only does it add a lot to the appearance of our gym, but it raises money for our programs.”
