St. Patrick's dominates the Webberville Spartans in the season opener
St. Patrick's opened up their 2018 girls basketball season on Tuesday, December 4th against the visiting Webberville Spartans. The Shamrocks started 3 freshmen, and had plenty of questions coming into the game, but they performed well and handled the visiting team from start to finish with a final score of 62-21.
In the 1st quarter, the Shamrocks started out a bit slow, with neither team being able to get much started offensively. The Shamrocks were able to put in 15 points on balanced scoring, and finished the quarter up 15-5.
In the 2nd quarter, the Shamrocks opened up the flood gates and high pressure defense from their guards really sparked some scoring. Two 3 pointers by Kaitlyn Russell led the Shamrocks to a 26-8 quarter, and left St. Patrick's leading 41-13 halftime score.
The 3rd quarter was more from St. Patrick's, with Lexi Hass chipping in two 3 pointers, and stifling defense from the Shamrocks only allowing the Spartans to score 3 points in the quarter. St. Patrick's won the 3rd with a score of 16-3, and led 57-16 after 3 quarters which led to a running clock for much of the 4th quarter.
In the 4th, their wasn't much time for scoring, and the teams ended up tying in the 4th quarter, 5-5, for a final score of 62-21.
Kaitlyn Russell led all scorers with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Lexi Hass had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Lydia Meredith scored 10 points, had 6 steals 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Summer Russman also had 2 steals 3 rebounds and 8 assists.
Legendary Coach Al Schrauben was full of his notorious wisdom after the game. "Typical opener, some good some bad. Good win."
The St. Patrick's girls play home against Lansing Christian on Thursday, December 6th at 7:30.
