Shamrocks rout the Peck Pirates
On Saturday, October 27th, the Peck Pirates visited Portland for a showdown with the St. Patrick’s Shamrocks. After a very difficult season, the Shamrocks came to play and dominated the Pirates with a final score of 33-6.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks struggled a bit early, before a long march and a drive capped by Connor Cross scrambling for a 5-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score 6-0 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, a beautifully blocked screen pass from Cross to John Schneider allowed Schneider to scamper 55 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion again failed leaving the score 12-0. The Shamrocks weren’t done though, with less than a minute left the Shamrocks would march down and score again on a 20-yard pass to Zach Spitzley, the extra point by Jeff Davlin was good, making the score 19-0. The Shamrocks followed that up with a fumble recovery 2 plays later, and another 30-yard touchdown reception right before the half for Zach Spitzley. Jeff Davlin made the kick again, making the score 26-0 at halftime.
The third quarter was scoreless, and in the fourth quarter the Shamrocks again struck when Cross connected with Zach Spitzley on a 52-yard touchdown. Jeff Davlin again hit the kick, making the score 33-0. Peck scored in the fourth quarter making the final 33-6.
Offensive leaders were Connor Cross who went 7 for 17 for 194 yards and 4 touchdowns, he also rushed 11 times for 77 yards and a touchdown. Zach Spitzley had 3 catches for 102 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ned Smith had 11 rushes for 89 yards. John Schneider also had 2 catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive leaders were Paul Cook with 24 tackles, Alex Kissane with 21 tackles, and Riley Kissane with 17 tackles. Ned Smith also had 4 tackles, 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss.
Coach Pat Russman was thrilled with his players efforts. “Our Defense really stepped up and played a great game tonight. Having Paul Cook healthy helps on both sides of the ball, but defensively he really makes a difference. Riley Kissane really is becoming an exceptional leader on defense, making sure assignments are covered and people are in place, and Alex really played aggressive defensively and came up with some huge stops. Altogether, this was one of our best team defensive games of the season. Offensively, Connor Cross really had a great night, running and throwing. Zach Spitzley had some great catches, as did John Schneider. Brian Kwiecinski, Jeff Davlin and Bret Weller all improved dramatically in the offensive line play which really helped us move the ball.”
The Shamrocks will host Tekonsha, next Saturday, November 3rd at 1pm for a rematch against the Indians. The Shamrocks defeated the Indians a few weeks ago 28-26.
