IONIA – The Mid-Michigan Word Gatherers and Isabelle Phoenix Gallery in Ionia will offer a free community event, the Another’s Perspective Writing Marathon, from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the gallery. The event is open to the public. Just bring your favorite writing tools.

The marathon format is a way for writers of all kinds – even those who don’t consider themselves writers – to experiment, explore, express and let words fall where they may, without editing or fear of judgment.

Participants will gather at the gallery and begin with a warm-up writing prompt, and then walk from place to place in the downtown area for inspiration, a time of writing, and sharing (if they choose). Participants will end back at the gallery at 2 p.m., where writings from the day will be read (again by choice) in an open-mic style. Sozo Coffee Roasting and Espresso Bar will provide refreshments.

The writing event will close out the Another’s Perspective art exhibition, in which two dozen area artists and writers have joined Isabelle Phoenix Gallery in presenting the many ways that privilege, trauma and stigma impact the lives of people in the community.

Isabelle Phoenix Gallery is located at 342 W. Main St. in Ionia.

For more information, find both the gallery and Mid-Michigan Word Gatherers on Facebook, or email mmwordgatherers@gmail.com.
