Muffler Man Returning to Town
For the past few months construction has been ongoing at the long vacant garage on Grand River Ave. in Portland. While, most recently, the location was home to an independently owned and operated garage, before that, it was a Muffler Man location. Like a blast from the past, the Muffler Man will soon be back in town.
According to Bob Bernhoft, president of Muffler Man Supply and general manager for franchising, “we had a muffler man [in Portland] for many years.” The company recently purchased the property back and is currently overhauling it. The renovations include expanding the facility from two to four maintenance bays. The new facility will also feature a mezzanine overlooking the maintenance bays. According to Bernhoft, the new garage will actually be a Muffler Man Maintance Man location and offer full service auto repairs, not simply muffler work.
Muffler Man has 80 locations in Michigan with an additional several dozen other locations nationwide. Portland is not the only new location in the works at this time. Bernhoft says they are opening a new garage in Brighton in the coming weeks and that the Portland location is the next new location set to open. The Portland Muffler Man is set to open around Thanksgiving time. The garage will be operated by a local franchisee, who Bernhoft describes as, “a local, experienced mechanic,” who will be hiring additional local mechanics. Muffler Man is not announcing the name of the franchise operator at this time.
