Beginning September 10, First Congregational Church, 421 E. Bridge St. in Portland, will again host the popular Monday Night Meal program from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in Fellowship Hall.

Now in its 12th year, the popular program runs from Labor Day to Memorial Day to offer a nutritious meal in a social setting. Meal delivery is also available for local shut-ins by calling the church office at (517) 647-6441 on Mondays before 1:30 pm.

There is no charge for the meals; however, free-will donations are accepted. Following the meal, a worship service led by Rev. April Barrett begins at 6:00 pm in the church sanctuary.

Supporting the Monday Night Meal program are several area churches that provide volunteer cooks and servers on a rotational basis:

1st Monday of the month—First Congregational Church

2nd Monday—St. Patrick Catholic Church

3rd Monday—Portland United Methodist Church

4th Monday—Mt. Hope Community and First Baptist churches

5th Monday—(October, March) Church of the Nazarene

Swede’s Restaurant in Mulliken provides soup each week. Other area businesses contributing to the program include New China Buffet, West Side Grocery and Portland Party Store.

Program brochures and sign-up sheets for volunteer servers will be available at the Red Mill on Saturday, August 25. Look for the First Congregational Church table where local shut-in residents requesting meal delivery may also register.
