Crowds gathered Wednesday morning to view Portland's annual Independence Day parade, despite the high temperatures. While waiting for the parade, friends and families shared stories of the Portland 4th of July firework show held the night before while patriotic music played in the background. Red, white and blue was the theme for spectators, participants and many store fronts. The parade was led by local American Legion Post 129 and VFW Post 4090 members through downtown Portland. Many area businesses and organizations were represented in the parade, as well as several political candidates. Viewers were showered with flags, candy and bottled water by parade participants as they rode or marched through the streets. Portland Civic Players and Portland Raiders Band members providedmusical numbers throughout the parade route. The parade ended with ESI Heating & Cooling reminding us to stay cool this summer.
