Volunteer Spotlight: Ann Goodwin

Each month, The Portland Beacon focuses on a volunteer right here in our community in our Volunteer Spotlight. We take a moment to recognize people that go above and beyond to help charities or organizations in Portland and ask for nothing in return.

For over 40 years, Ann Goodwin has volunteered her time thru out the Portland community. She devoted many hours with the “Adopt a family” program at Christmas, and encouraged her family to get involved with volunteer projects.

For several years, Ann worked bingo at the senior center in Portland in the winter months. However, in the summer she could not work because she loved to play golf.

Over the years, she has generously given her time to many activities at the VFW Post. Programs such as; breakfasts, Poppy sales, taking phone sales for the fish fry’s, where she set a personal record this year with 48 take-out orders in one night.

Past Post Commander Fred Proctor states: “Ann has been a long-time volunteer at Post 4090 VFW. She Worked two Steak fries a month at the Post for several years and is a past trustee and secretary with the Post Auxiliary.”

Past District Commander, John Dorsky states: “Ann really enjoyed our annual Christmas basket deliveries to seniors and shut-ins. In fact, when she began spending winters in Florida, she would not leave Michigan until after the basket delivery was completed.”

Ann’s high level of energy, devotion and an unselfish loyalty to the VFW and the Portland community set an example for all of us.

Please take the time to congratulate Ann Goodwin for all she has given the community of Portland.
