Raider Softball Takes Two from Ionia, Moves to 10-1
The varsity softball team picked up their first wins in the league on Thursday night by defeating Ionia 3 – 2 and 12 – 8.
In game one, the Raiders scored their three runs on seven hits and did not have an error. Leading hitters for the Portland were Ella Gardner who went two for three and Abby Grys who went two for four with two RBI’s. Adrianna Novara picked up her 8th win of the season giving up the two runs on four hits and striking out seven.
Portland got their bats going in the nightcap exploding for 16 hits in their 12 – 8 victory. Sophia Novara had a gutsy performance on the mound and earned her second victory for the season. Abby Grys pitched the final two innings and picked up the save. The offense was led by Jada Walton who went three for four with a double, triple and two RBI’s; Abby Grys going three for five with a double and three RBI’s and Natalie Linebaugh who went three for five with a triple and two RBI’s. Taylor Trieweiler and Ella Gardner each added two hits in the game. Portland is now 10 – 1 for the season and 2 – 0 in the league.
