Reader Support Key to Survival and Growth
When I posted the first piece on The Portland Beacon back in August of 2017, I had no idea where this endeavor would go. While I knew our community needed something to bring back the truly local focus that others had seemed to move away from, I was not sure if this site would gain traction with readers.
Over the past months, I have been amazed at how the Beacon has grown. From emails, to conversations around town, to website analytics, I can see that the site is having a great impact on our community. People value what the Beacon has to offer.
While I am grateful for the way this community has embraced the site, and I have no plans of stopping any time soon, every now and then I need to take a moment and remind readers that the Beacon cannot survive and grow without your support.
I have been fortunate in gaining the financial support of several fantastic local businesses, but advertising alone will not keep the Beacon alive. This business model is also dependent on reader support.
At this time, I ask that you take a minute and consider making a financial contribution to the Beacon.
Your money will help fund local journalism based right here. It will support the coverage of local events, people, schools, non-profits, and small businesses. It will help build a more engaged community.
If you would like to contribute with credit or debit card, please visit www.theportlandbeacon.com, and click on the "Contribute" tab to use PayPal.
To contribute by check, please make check payable to “The Portland Beacon”, and mail it to P.O. Box 331, Portland, MI 48875.
If you decide that contributing isn’t right for you, please consider helping the Beacon by supporting us on social media. Your likes, shares, follows and re-Tweets help us spread local news, and bring new readers to the Beacon.
