Gardner, Miller and Guilford Advance to States
Seven Portland wrestlers competed in the MHSAA Division 3 individual regionals at Williamston High school on Saturday.
Three will advance to the state tournament at Ford Field on March 2nd and 3rd. Desmond Gardner who took first at 140 lbs., Devin Miller who took third at 160 lbs., and Owen Guilford who took first at 171 lbs.
Desmond Gardner won all three of his matches, winning the championship by decision with a score of eight to three over Grant Ott of Dundee. Devin Miller finished with a two and one record, and finished in third place after he defeated Justin Duvall of Monroe Jefferson with a one to zero decision.
Owen Guilford was undefeated and finished first in his division with a seven to six decision over Jaxon Guinn of Dundee. Ethan Getchell (135), Hunter Hoppes (145), Kyle Hinds (152) and Doak Manshum (215) all had solid showings, but fell just shy of advancing to the state tournament.
