Shamrock Boys Fall to Fulton
The St. Patrick School Shamrock boys basketball team hosted the Pirates of Fulton on Friday night, and the shamrocks lost 78-73.
Score by quarter:
Saint Patrick 21 17 9 26 = 73
Fulton 11 21 21 25 = 78
According to coach Mark Scheurer, “This was a game of runs by both teams. We had our run early and took a half time lead into the locker room, but a slow start in the second half saw Fulton jump into control. However, we took a lead 61-60 and had two possessions to increase the lead but both ended with ill-timed turnovers. Fulton hit a three pointer and then had a layup and foul with a free throw that put them up six and we had to play catch-up from there.”
Brandon Scheurer played his best varsity game to date. He finished with 33 points, four assists and three rebounds. Coach Scheurer said, “He did a great job of finishing in traffic and through contact. He was 12-17 from the floor (three for five from three) and six of nine from the free throw line. He really evolved as a player in this game.”
Nate Leahy found his shooting form to give a potent 1-2 punch with him and Brandon. Nate had 23 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Scheurer said, “When Nate is on, it doesn't allow other teams to double Brandon as much. Brandon and Nate scored 25 out of the 26 points for the Shamrocks in the fourth quarter. I thought we played extremely hard and now we need to learn how to win games in the end and we will continue to work on it.”
Will Simon turned in another quality effort with 10 assists and Nathan Lehnert added five points and six rebounds.
The Shamrocks move to a four and eight overall record, and one and seven in the CMAC.
Their next contest will home against Pewamo-Westphalia Friday. P-W comes in with a six and four record after falling to Bath 36-34 on Friday.
