Portland Boys Help Lansing Senators Black 14U Win Second Tournament Championship This Year

Portland hockey players Evan Blackmer, PHS freshman, and Reese Sandborn, PMS 8th grader, along with their 2017-18 Lansing Senators Black 14U hockey team, brought home their second tournament championship this season in Ludington on January 21st. The Senators Black team has dominated the West Shore Ludington Deep Freeze Hockey Tournament with three consecutive Championship titles since 2016. The Senators Black team also brought home a championship title in December from the prestigious Mid Michigan International Silver Sticks Tournament. On January 14th, they captured their second Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL) Division Title in three years. The team currently holds an impressive undefeated 31-0-0 record, outscoring their opponents 255 to 32 during this stretch of the season. The Senators Black team will be heading to Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) District Playoffs February 2nd-4th at Ferris State University in hopes of earning their spot as one of seven teams competing in the MAHA State Championships.

Blackmer and Sandborn have played together as members of the Lansing Senators Black team for the past three seasons. Their achievements include a current record of 109-16-8, 8 tournament championships, 2 LCAHL Division titles, and an LCAHL League Championship in 2016.
