Obituary for Richard D. "Rick" Painter
Richard Dale Painter, age 60, of Portland, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 in Lansing, Michigan after years of battling health complications stemming from strokes. He was born on April 24, 1957, in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Paul E. and Hazel L. (Ford) Painter. Rick graduated from Rudyard in 1976, then from barber school before moving to Marquette, Michigan where he met Rose Blaschka. They were married in 1978 and settled in Portland where Rick opened his barber business and it flourished though 2007 when Rick retired due to his health. Preceding Rick in death are his beloved wife, Rose Painter and dear son, Daniel Painter. He is survived by his sons, Nicholas Painter and Paul Painter; daughters, Stephanie (Francis) D’Huyvetter, and Katie (Brandon) Hoppes; and 9 grandchildren. Rick was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and husband. He loved his family fiercely and shared his passion for the outdoors with his children. He liked telling jokes with his grandchildren and anyone who happened to be around to listen. Rick truly appreciated and enjoyed his work and the community of Portland. The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Joe Robbe and Reverend Michael Painter at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery.
