Obituary for Richard Selden

Richard Forrest Selden passed away peacefully at his home on the lake under the watchful eye of Hospice and his loving family on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, in Lake Odessa, Michigan. He was born December 6, 1928 in Eagle Township. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Portland High School in 1946. He married Ann Green on August 12, 1949 and together they raised four children. He worked 35 years at TRW in Portland, retiring in 1988. He was a man of many talents. He could turn a piece of broken down furniture into something beautiful. He loved dabbling in antiques and spent lots of time at garage sales, searching for the perfect treasure. He was a hunter, a fisherman, a carpenter, and a handyman. He made friends whether camping, wintering in Texas, spending time at Bonanza Antiques, or just going to the grocery store. His family and friends will remember him for his friendly smile, his kind words, his firm handshakes and warm hugs, and his unwavering love for them. He was a man of God and a friend to all.

He is survived by his three children. Jim (Lorna) Selden of Ludington, Jerry (Cindy) Selden of Portland, Luann (Lee) Starks of Portland, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Jay (Dorothy) Selden of Westcliff, CO, brother-in-law Robert Atherton of Portland, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann, in 2013 after 64 years of marriage, his son, Larry in 1971, and his granddaughter, Sara Starks in 2001. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.
