PHS Boys Tennis Finishes 12th in State

The Portland Raider boy’s tennis team traveled to Novi on October 20th and 21st for the 2017 MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 4 Boys Tennis Finals. The Raider team finished in 12th place.

In number one singles, Portland’s senior Ryan Lefke defeated Trevor Tulin from Essexville Garber 6-0, 6-2 in his first round, before falling to number one seed Evan Sood from AA Gabriel Richard, 6-0, 6-0. Sood went on to take second place in that flight.

In number two singles, Kyle Leonard faced off against Ilan Elrom from West Bloomfield’s Frankel Jewish Academy. Leonard fell, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

In number three singles, sophomore Aryan Virk took on Connor Welling from Paw Paw. Virk won that match, 6-4, 6-2. Virk would fall in his second match to number two seed Casey Scoggin from GPW University Liggett, 6-0, 6-3.

In number four singles, freshman Jack Roe drew a bye in the first round, before falling to six seed Nick Lourido of GR Catholic Central, 6-2, 6-1.

In number one doubles, Vaughn Cross and Bailey Bullock defeated Brandon Dineaur and Jabob Mannikko of Essexville Garber, 6-2, 6-0. In the second round Cross/Bullock would fall to number one seed Jack Harris and Trey Feldeisen from AA Greenhills, 6-1, 6-0. Harris and Feldeisen would go on to take the flight.

In number two doubles, Desmond Gardner and Dawson Collins were defeated in the first round by Alex Bean and Eli Grey from WB Frankel Jewish Academy, 7-6(3), 6-3.

In number three doubles, Cameron Hindmon and David Yang drew a bye in the first round. In their second round they defeated Blaine Eastwood and Noah Rieder of Chesaning, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4). In the third round Hindmon/Yang fell to number two seed Drake Rosenberg and Taha Zirapury from AA Greenhills, 6-1, 6-2. Rosenberg and Zirapury would end to taking the fight.

In number four doubles, Finn Mull and Gabe Hankey drew a bye in the first round, before falling to Jeff Shembarger and Kyle Johnson of Berrien Springs, 6-2, 6-3.
