Shamrocks Over Marion 24-8

The Shamrocks of St. Patrick School hosted the Eagles of Marion on a wet and rainy Saturday night, and the waterlogged hosts came away with a 24-8 victory.

The Shamrocks drew first blood early in the first when Tanner Lawson ran in a six-yard TD run. The PAT by Jeff Davlin was good, putting St. Patrick’s up 7-0.

On the following Marion possession, the Eagles fumbled the ball, and it was recovered by Shamrock #34 Isaiah Smith on the Eagle 24-yard line. Just a few plays later, Lawson put the Shamrocks on the board again with an eight-yard rushing TD. The PAT by Davlin was good, putting the Shamrocks up 14-0 with about three minutes left in the first quarter.

The Eagles started their next possession on their own 12-yard line, and the St. Patrick defense was able to force a safety, putting the score at 16-0 just before the end of the first quarter.

In their first possession of the second quarter, the Eagles finally got on the board themselves when #33 broke free for a 43-yard touchdown run. Marion’s #2 was successful on the two-point conversion, putting the score at 16-8.

The score would stay there for the remainder of the first half. Neither team would reach the end zone in the third quarter.

With about a minute left in the game, the Shamrocks were able to score again when Isaiah Smith scored on a 15-yard rushing touchdown. The Shamrocks were successful in converting the two-point conversion when Lawson connected with Colin Cook, putting the Shamrocks up 24-8.

The Eagles were unable to score in their final possession, and the Shamrocks finished with the 24-8 victory.

The Shamrocks will host the Michigan School for the Deaf (Flint) in a rare Thursday night varsity contest for their regular season finale. The game with start at 7:00 PM.

Michigan School for the Deaf is winless on the season so far. The sole mutual opponent both teams have seen this year is Webberville. Michigan School for the Deaf lost to Webberville 74-14 in week five, while the Shamrocks defeated Webberville 38-22 in week three.
