Why Advertising on The Portland Beacon Makes Sense for Local Business

Since The Portland Beacon started in August of 2017, this local new service has depended on reader support and local advertisers to keep things running.

Today I wanted to take a deeper look at why local advertising on a new site like The Portland Beacon is a good choice for local businesses.

Macromark, Inc., in an article “Advantages of Local Newspaper Advertising” highlighted the benefits of local newspaper advertising as:

· Affordability

· Timelines and Great Flexibility

· Proactive Audience

· Targeted Geographic Audience

· Build Trust

· Last-Minute Changes

· Wide Range of Advertising Options

· Convenience

With local advertising options starting at $40 a month, The Portland Beacon can offer affordable advertising options that fit into any size budget.

Our advertising options include clickable links that are included in all of our pieces, and can include sponsored content where you have complete control over your message. Our advertisers are included on our site, along with our daily and weekly email newsletters.

In regard to a target local audience, the local concentration of readers that The Portland Beacon offers is hard to match. In the last three months of 2021, our site had over 41,000 page views from more than 21,000 users. The vast majority of those visitors originated in Portland and surrounding communities.

As for trust, Patch said “Americans believe local news outlets are accurate, useful, trustworthy and caring.” They highlight a Pew Research study that found that 71% of U.S. adults feel local news media reports news accurately.

A Knight Foundation study found that “More Americans trust local news than national news: 45% of Americans trust reporting by local news organizations “a great deal” or “quite a lot,” compared to 31% for national news organizations.”

Your advertising dollars will stay right her in Portland to fund local news. These funds help cover the costs of maintaining the site and to pay our dedicated tame of contributors.

If you own or manage a business in Portland and you are looking for a way to reach local readers, please consider advertising on The Portland Beacon. For more information you can call 517-526-4696, or email jim@theportlandbeacon.com. We will get back to you as quickly as we can.
